Sometimes it is necessary to have a purpose statement for a ministry. A web ministry may also need a purpose statement. A good purpose statement defines the goals of the ministry in a short, compact statement. Below are some examples of purpose statements that might be used:
In choosing a purpose statement for a web ministry, look choose one that best reflects the goals of the ministry. Avoid using a statement like, “to maintain the church website.” A statement like this is not specific enough. There is nothing about the statement that makes it clear what the ministry is supposed to accomplish. A website could be as simple as a page with the church name on it or it could be much more complicated and even provide items for sale. Any website would fit within the purpose statement.
It is necessary to be careful about trying to put too much into a purpose statement as well. Some churches may have unrealistic goals for their website. A website will not bring in lots of people by itself. A website can provide information about other things the church is doing to help bring in people. A website can enhance the other ministries of the church. Don’t expect it to replace the other ministries of the church.
